Litterless Lunches
This week, we are proposing our first school initiative: litterless lunches!
We need to help the Earth by reducing the amount of waste we accumulate. The amount of waste we produce as a school per day is immense. Every day, our classroom bins are filled to the brim with garbage which cannot be recycled or composted - or, if it can, does not go in the correct bins. Globally, we produce a massive 2.12 billion tonnes of waste annually. This much waste could circle the Earth 24 times. And a lot of that trash comes from food wrappers and packaging.
So we decided to challenge the school to bring a litterless lunch to school on the 21st of December. They had to bring a lunch that produced no waste: no cling wrap, tin foil, disposable utensils, or granola bar wrappers. The classes with zero garbage build-up from lunch bags will be recognized during morning assembly as the winners of this important mission! Stay tuned for the winning classes.
